[May. 6th, 2009|10:28 am] |
today I mark my 35th year here
surrounded by loving family, friends, and the man that I love
I have a little bit of health, a little bit of smarts, a little bit of money, a little bit of know-how, and a lot of love, hugs, and understanding
thanks be to god for the understanding, both of friends and family and of myself
I have lived, thus far, a charmed life, and I hope that continues
so, in thanksgiving I offer up this awareness -- thanks for the love, compassion, understanding, trust, and continued good times
live your life love much play as much as you can work as much as you need
but love |

[Mar. 27th, 2009|01:49 pm] |
14-19 hour days at work = state budget
week 2 of the cleanse = feeling awesome, looking awesome, looking/feeling smaller, have had only 2 meals with meat, the rest all veg, getting back into enjoying cooking for myself (or having parents cook for me as i am at work late)
work around the house = not happening, house is not a problem area yet but the wash needs to get done
cuddles = tuesday and then after a successful yale interview, sunday, the craving has begun though
sunny spring weather = awesome, just fell asleep on a park bench |

| i may not look like the lorax.. |
[Mar. 22nd, 2009|09:42 pm] |
but i speak for the trees, the open spaces, the preserves, the water, the air, the slices of the natural world
i worked both days this weekend, attempting the dance of the state budget process -- not many people understand their state government or where their taxes go, and i get alot of "oh it is too bad you have to work this weekend/night/overnight/leave work at 6am, shower and be back by 9pm"
but i get alot of fantastic time off in the fall, my favorite season so it equals out
had a fire in the hearth on friday night when i got home very very late, and put it out after an hour, about 4 hours less than i like to have hearth time, but every time i do this, make the hearth warm, i realize that at some point i want to have a traditional hearth in my kitchen as a cooking option
this cleanse is 5 days down, only off the wagon twice, once because i was weak, and once to see what would happen to my body
i won't always be as strict as i am being these 2 weeks, but i believe that the incremental change that i am thinking about and processing as i shop, cook, etc will hopefully be life long |
|
|
| wednesday night was the start |
[Mar. 20th, 2009|02:05 pm] |
so after the biergarten, i started the cleanse wednesday night, 2 weeks of limiting the amount of food intake, no meat until week 2, getting rid of caffeine, sugar, processed foods, booze, and the like
going good so far, one hell of a headache though
anybody have good recipes for steamed veg? |

| disconnect |
[Mar. 11th, 2009|03:47 pm] |
so each year as i work on the budget, i feel a disconnect, a longing to see friends, it is so weird every year
leaving for work at 8am and getting home at 1 or 2am, only to do the same thing day after day makes you long for your friends and family, but allows you to create these very involved relationships with people that you see everyday but would never see outside of work/the routine -- the sandwich girl, the dry cleaner, that guy who always seems to be gassing at the same station and the same time you are, the chinese counterman
it is both terrifying and wonderful
but really it just makes you long for hot summer nights on the deck, drinking drinks, eating things, laughing so hard you cry, and watching the goldenrod bloom |

| interesting december weather |
[Dec. 13th, 2008|10:28 pm] |
| [ | music |
| | edward scissorhands -- main title & ice dance | ] | as soon may have seen on the weather channel or the national news, upstate NY got hit with a huge ice storm on thursday, lots of people without power for up to a week!
thankfully i have not lost power or heat, but no one took me up on the offer to camp out at my place if needed (probably a good thing)
but i have been walking around to friends' homes and the ice looks so beautiful on all the trees and bushes and when it falls to the ground, it looks as if a huge frat party came and threw all of their bottles on the ground, the ice is so fine and beautiful, like walking on broken glass |

I reach out to my Canadian friends with open arms
We, United States citizens, are rising on a wave of a fantastic change of government, one of hope rather than fear, of effective solutions, and new beginnings (we pray)
and you have been prorogued
something no freely elected democratic government should ever have to face
we on the left in the US would joke about moving to Canada
Canadians, you are more than welcome here :) |

| i do hope we get to see it |
[Dec. 11th, 2008|10:18 pm] |
this weekend guys, the most beautiful moon!
la bella luna, very moonstruck i hope that the clouds and snow subside so we can view it!
December 12 - Full Moon December 13, 14 - Geminids Meteor Shower. Considered by many to be the best meteor shower in the heavens, the Geminids are known for producing up to 60 multicolored meteors per hour at their peak. The peak of the shower is on the morning of December 13, although some meteors should be visible from December 6 - 19. Unfortunately, the full moon will block out all but the brightest meteors this year, even in dark locations. The radiant point for this shower will be in the constellation Gemini. Best viewing is usually to the east after midnight.

| anyone still listening? |
[Nov. 27th, 2008|11:29 am] |
hi
so uhm, an unexpected nudge and some pretty horrible articles about how we can still "enjoy" the holidays without the hundreds of gifts you would normal receive have forced me to post after a long open-relationship with livejournal.
so the nudge? thanks nick
and the idea that you need things to be joyous, take a good look deep down and re-exam your existence.
i am thankful and grateful for many many things in my life and i hope you are as well
happy thanksgiving everyone. |
